Charles Sturt Council is reaping the rewards of fuel savings, thanks to the Hino Hybrid Electric
The adoption of the Hino 300 Series Hybrid Electric trucks by the Charles Sturt Council is helping to cut fuel costs and lowering CO₂ emissions and the CMI Hino Adelaide team are proud to play an important role in this change.
The City of Charles Sturt is home to around 130,000 people from over 105 backgrounds and cultures. Located between the city and the sea, its situated in the west of the Central Business District of Adelaide.
“The light-duty trucks are used by our teams to maintain more than 450 reserves and almost 500 hectares of open space across the City of Charles Sturt,” shared Evert Verhage, Fleet Manager for Charles Sturt Council.
Being well known for their quality, durability and reliability, Hino trucks from CMI Hino Adelaide were a clear choice for the Charles Sturt Council’s fleet.
“There are over 50 trucks in our fleet and we have recently added five Hybrid Electrics, which will assist us in reducing our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment,” Evert explained.
As the Hino 300 Series Hybrid Electric trucks utilise a standard diesel pump, it means there are no restrictions with range, charging requirements or refuelling issues.
“While it is early days, we are already seeing a significant fuel saving which correlates to a reduction in CO2 emissions. The addition of Hino Hybrid Electrics is the small but significant stepping stone in the evolution of our fleet,” shared Evert.
Built to suit any industry, the versatile Hino Hybrid Electric offers a range of Built to Go models, including Alloy Tray and TradeAce variants, or can be customised for any application to meet the unique needs of any business.
“The tray body is fitted with enclosed tool boxes and a Redarc charging system that allows for the easy recharging of battery power tools, as opposed to the previous two-stroke power tools. These features all contribute to our commitment to reduce emissions and look after our City for future generations,” Evert explained.
Like all Hino 300 Series 4×2 models, the Hybrid Electric models are equipped with Hino SmartSafe, a comprehensive safety suite of advanced driver assist technologies designed to actively protect drivers, passengers and other road users. Hino SmartSafe features a Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Pedestrian Detection (PD) and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), along with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), a reverse camera, dual SRS airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, UN ECE R-29 certified cab strength and easy start.
“Our drivers are happy with the comfort, safety and features of the Hino Hybrid Electrics,” shared Evert.
Available from CMI Hino Adelaide, the Hino 300 Series Hybrid Electric range spans from the 616 Standard and Wide Cab car licenced models at 4.5-tonne GVM through to the 716 Wide Cab with a 6.5-tonne GVM and the 916 Wide Cab offering a maximum GVM of 8 tonnes.
“Our partnership with the City of Charles Sturt is a great example of how councils can embrace practical, forward thinking technology. The Hino Hybrid Electric truck delivers real-world fuel savings without compromising performance, making it an easy and effective step toward a more sustainable fleet,” shared CMI Hino Adelaide Sales Manager, Dani Brown.
We would like to thank Evert and the City of Charles Sturt team for choosing CMI Hino Adelaide and Hino Trucks. We look forward to continuing to work with the team to incorporate additional Hino hybrid trucks into their fleet, while helping to cut fuel costs and lower CO₂ emissions.
